Today is the first working day of the year. Do you have twelve different ideas simmering and great plans for the new year? This is great!
As you take the time to sort through and flesh out plans, remember one of our key tenants of marketing: you will be the most successful at attracting clients when you use your strengths on a consistent basis.
Marketing is a marathon, not a sprint. So instead of trying to do everything at once, try this:
- Identify the marketing activity you currently do that is really fun and easy. Maybe this is staying connected with your peeps on Facebook, or writing your ezine, or participating in a local networking group.
- Keep doing it.
- Identify a new marketing activity that leverages one of your strengths and meets the needs of your people. Maybe you are a great public speaker. Or you have a podcast voice that would put Lauren Bacall to shame. Or you are fantastic at answering questions and are always the star of any forum you participate in.
- Schedule this new thing into your regular monthly calendar. Start with a feasible goal, like one new presentation a month, or one 5-minute podcast per month, or 30 minutes per week answering questions on a forum.
- Stick with this new activity for a minimum of 3 months and see what happens. If you continue to enjoy it, do it all year, and beyond. Our hunch is that you will make some great new connections and have fun doing it. It may lead you to new opportunities that never would have appeared if you had not tried something new.
This is the year for us as coaches to meet the needs of a world hungry for positive change. So get out there and strut your stuff!
